Do not participate in this study if you are under the age of 18.
Purpose: You are being asked to participate in a research study. In this session, you completed practice questions on the Exam Jam system. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Exam Jams.
Procedures: If you choose to be in the study, your Exam Jam participation data will be recorded and compared with your exam scores and overall course performance. You do not need to take any further action.
Benefits: Your participation may help improve the Exam Jam system for future quarters. It otherwise provides no direct benefit to you.
Risks: There are no anticipated risks to participating in this project.
Confidentiality: The researchers will be able to link your data back to you. However, if the research is published for others to view, such as in academic papers or conferences, your data will be de-identified, and no one will be able to identify you using the published information.
Right to refuse or withdraw: You can refuse to take part in this study, and your decision will not affect your standing in CMPSC 16. Your decision will be saved for future Exam Jam sessions, and you may change your decision in any future session.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release of educational records: For the purpose of this study, your midterm exam, final exam, and course final grades are to be released to the research team. These records will be de-identified to anyone not an instructor of your course or a researcher on this team, but are critical to determining the correlation between performance in the course and the effectiveness of the Exam Jam system.
